Convert PDF pages to PNG without losing detail

PNG is the format to reach for when the page is not a photograph. Screenshots, charts, engineering drawings, logos, tables, anything built from text and straight lines: all of these survive PNG exactly as drawn, because the format stores pixels rather than approximating them. The same page saved as JPG picks up a faint haze around every letter.

It also keeps transparency. If a PDF page has a transparent background, perhaps because it holds a logo or a signature you intend to place over something else, PNG preserves that. JPG cannot, and fills the gap with white instead.

The trade is size. Lossless compression on a scanned photograph produces a very large file for no visible gain, so a 300 page scanned book is the wrong job for PNG. Use it for the pages where edges matter, and use JPG for the ones that are really pictures.

Simple, practical guidance

How to use PDF to PNG

Pages are rendered into PNG, a format that stores every pixel exactly as drawn. Nothing is approximated, which is what keeps thin lines and small text clean.

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF.

  2. 2

Choose the resolution needed for screen or print use.

  3. 3

Confirm the document and page count.

  4. 4

Select Convert to PNG and download the result.

Get a better result

PNG compression is lossless, so there are no blocky artefacts around text or diagram edges at any resolution. Raising the resolution sharpens fine print and increases the file size proportionally.

Know how your file is handled

Rendering runs inside your browser. The PDF is read locally and the PNG files are generated on your own machine, so no page is ever transmitted.

Check before you share

Lossless storage means large files, particularly on scanned photographs where a PNG can be several times the size of an equivalent JPG with no visible benefit.

Questions people ask

PDF to PNG FAQ

When PNG is the right choice, transparency, file sizes, and exporting a single page.

How do I convert a PDF to PNG?

Upload the document, choose the resolution you need, confirm the page count, then select Convert to PNG. A one page PDF returns a single image and a longer one returns a ZIP of images.

Why choose PNG over JPG?

PNG is lossless, so text, lines, charts and screenshots keep hard edges with no compression haze. JPG is better only when the page is predominantly photographic, where its smaller files are worth the slight softening. PDF to JPG

Does PNG keep transparent backgrounds?

Yes. Transparency in the source page is preserved, which is what you want when the exported image will be layered over something else. JPG would fill those areas with white.

What resolution is best?

150 DPI reads comfortably on screen. 300 DPI is the right choice for print or for pages with small print that people will zoom into. Higher values rarely look different and grow the file quickly.

Why are the PNG files so big?

Lossless compression cannot discard detail, so a full page scan carries a lot of data. If the pages are photographs rather than diagrams, JPG at a high quality setting gives a far smaller file that looks the same.

Can I export just one page as PNG?

Yes. Select that page and you get a single image instead of an archive. For a specific group of pages, extract them into a short PDF first and convert that. Extract PDF

Is the text in the PNG still searchable?

No. The page is rendered to pixels, so the text becomes part of the picture. Use PDF to Text if you need the words, or run the image through OCR afterwards. Image to Text

Do the PDF and the images stay on my device?

No. The conversion is carried out by your browser, so the PDF and the resulting images both stay on your device.

Can I use the PNGs on a website?

Yes, and they are a good fit for diagrams and screenshots. For photographs consider JPG or WebP to keep page weight down, since a large PNG slows a page noticeably.

How do I make a PDF from PNG images again?

Use PNG to PDF, which places each image on its own page in the order you set and keeps the lossless image data as it is. PNG to PDF
