How do I merge PDF files online for free?

Is there a file size limit when merging?
No fixed limit. Because your files are never uploaded, there is no server-side cap to hit. The practical limit is how much memory your browser can use, which on a normal laptop comfortably covers files in the hundreds of megabytes.
Can I merge large PDF files without uploading them?
Yes, and that is the default here. The merge is performed by code running in your tab, so a 300 MB or 500 MB file is read from your disk directly. Nothing is transferred, which is why a large file is not slower to start than a small one.
How do I control the page order in the merged file?
The output follows the order of the file list. Drag any file up or down before merging and the list reorders to match. Pages inside a single file keep their existing internal order.
Can I merge more than two PDFs at once?
Yes. Add as many files as you need in one go rather than merging in pairs. A single pass is faster and avoids rewriting the document repeatedly.
Do bookmarks and links survive the merge?
Page content, links and annotations on each page are carried across. Top-level bookmark trees from several different source files cannot always be stitched into one coherent outline, so check the bookmark panel if your document depends on it.
What happens to fillable form fields?
Form fields are copied with their pages. If two source PDFs happen to use the same internal field name, the merged file can end up with fields that update together. That is a quirk of the PDF format rather than this tool, so flatten the forms first if it matters.
Can I merge scanned PDFs?
Yes. Scanned pages are images inside a PDF and they are copied over untouched at their original resolution. If you want the merged result to be searchable, run OCR PDF on it afterwards. OCR PDF
Why will my password-protected PDF not merge?
An encrypted PDF has to be opened before its pages can be read. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, using the password you already hold, then merge the unlocked copy. Unlock PDF
The merged file is too big to email. What now?
Run it through Compress PDF. Scanned and image heavy merges usually drop a long way at the Balanced setting with no visible change on screen. Compress PDF
