Insert pages into a PDF at any position
Merging puts one document after another. Inserting puts something in the middle, which is the job when you need a signed annexure after page 7, a photo of an ID card at the front of an application, or two blank sheets at the back for handwritten notes. You pick the insertion point and the rest of the document shifts down around it.
Three kinds of thing can go in. Blank pages, for printing and writing on or for keeping a double sided layout working. Pages from another PDF, which come across as real pages with their text still selectable. And images, which are placed onto new pages, useful for scans taken on a phone that never became a PDF in the first place.
One detail that catches people out is page size. An inserted page keeps the dimensions it already had, so dropping a Letter sized page into an A4 report gives you a document with two different page sizes. Readers handle that fine, but printers sometimes do not, so match the sizes first if the file is going to be printed.
Simple, practical guidance
How to use Add Pages
Choose what to insert and where it goes, and the new sheets are written into the document at that point. The pages already in the file are copied across untouched.
- 1
Upload the PDF you want to add pages to.
- 2
Choose blank pages, another PDF or images.
- 3
Pick where they go: at the start, at the end or after a page.
- 4
Select Add pages and download the updated PDF.
Get a better result
Existing pages and bookmarks are kept as they are, and inserted pages from another PDF arrive with their own fonts and vector content intact rather than as pictures.
Know how your file is handled
Insertion happens in your browser. Both the original document and whatever you are adding are read from your own disk, and the combined file is written locally.
Check before you share
Pages from a password-protected PDF can only be added once it has been unlocked, and an inserted page keeps its own size, so adding a Letter page to an A4 document leaves the document slightly mixed.

Add Pages FAQ
Inserting at a chosen position, adding images or blank sheets, and keeping page sizes consistent.
How do I insert a page into the middle of a PDF?
Upload the document, choose what you want to add, then set the position to after a specific page number. The new sheet lands at that point and everything after it moves down.
What is the difference between adding pages and merging?
Merging joins documents end to end in the order of the file list. Adding pages puts the new content at a position you choose inside an existing document, which is what you need when the insertion point is not the beginning or the end. Merge PDF
Can I add blank pages to a PDF?
Yes. Choose blank pages and set how many and where. This is commonly used to keep a double sided print laying out correctly, or to leave room for notes and signatures.
Can I insert photos or images as pages?
Yes. JPG, PNG and similar images are placed onto new pages at the position you pick. For a long batch of photos it is usually tidier to build a PDF from them first and then insert that whole document. JPG to PDF
Will the inserted pages match my document size?
Not automatically. A page brought in from another PDF keeps its original dimensions, so mixing A4 and Letter sources leaves both sizes in the file. Convert or resize first if the document has to print consistently.
Do existing bookmarks and links still work?
The pages you already had are copied across with their links, annotations and form fields intact. Bookmarks pointing to those pages continue to resolve, though an outline entry for a newly inserted page has to be created yourself.
Is my document uploaded to add pages?
No. Both files are read from your device and the updated PDF is assembled in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.
Can I add pages from a protected PDF?
Only after unlocking it, since its page content cannot be read while encrypted. Unlock the source with its password first, then insert from the unlocked copy. Unlock PDF
How do I add a page at the very beginning?
Set the position to the start of the document. This is the usual choice for a cover sheet, an index or a scanned identity document in front of an application.
I inserted the page in the wrong place. What now?
Remove it with Remove Pages and insert it again, or open the file in the PDF editor and drag the page to the right position in the sidebar. PDF Editor
