Convert an Excel workbook to a PDF
Nearly every complaint about this conversion is really a complaint about print setup. A spreadsheet is an unbounded grid with no inherent page size, so something has to decide where the paper ends, and that something is the print configuration stored in the workbook. Convert a wide financial model with no print area set and you get columns A to F on page one and column G alone on page two, which looks like a conversion fault but is exactly what Excel would have printed.
Five minutes in Excel before uploading fixes almost all of it. Set the print area to the range that matters. Choose landscape for anything wide. Use Fit to one page wide under scaling so columns stay together. Set the header row to repeat on every page so a twelve page table is readable. Then convert, and the PDF will match what the print preview showed you.
Remember that the PDF is a snapshot. Formulas are replaced by whatever they evaluated to at that moment, so the recipient sees numbers rather than calculations, and filters, slicers and pivot table controls are no longer interactive. That is usually the point, since it stops anyone changing the figures, but send the workbook itself if they need to work with the model.

Worksheet count is not page count, because a wide sheet spills across several sheets of paper. Formulas are frozen at their current values and interactive features such as filters and pivot controls stop working.

How do I convert Excel to PDF?
Upload the XLS or XLSX workbook, confirm the detected worksheets, select Convert to PDF, then check the result for clipped columns and scaling before sending it on.
Why are my columns cut off?
Because the sheet is wider than the paper and no scaling was set. In Excel, choose landscape orientation and set scaling to Fit to one page wide, then convert again. The PDF follows the workbook print settings.
Why does one worksheet produce many pages?
A worksheet has no page size of its own, so a long or wide range is split across as many sheets of paper as it needs. Setting a print area limits this to the range you actually care about.
How do I repeat the header row on every page?
Set it in Excel under Print Titles before uploading. The setting is stored in the workbook, so the conversion honours it and every page of a long table carries its column headings.
Are all worksheets included?
The conversion follows what the workbook is set to print. If only some sheets should appear, set the print range or hide the others before uploading.
Do formulas still work in the PDF?
No. A PDF holds values, not calculations, so each cell shows what the formula evaluated to at conversion time. Send the workbook if the recipient needs to change inputs.
What happens to charts and pivot tables?
Charts are rendered as they appear on the sheet. Pivot tables print as their current layout, but the interactive controls, filters and slicers are inert in a PDF.

Yes. Spreadsheet pagination requires an engine unavailable in a browser, so the file is processed on our server and removed once your download is ready.
Can I convert a password-protected workbook?
Remove the password in Excel first. An encrypted workbook cannot be opened for layout, so the conversion has nothing to read.
